Ecuador. I'm in love.

Ecuador. I love it. I don't even know where to start so I am going to put up pictures and just go from there. The house we live in is pretty fun. There are fourteen girls here right now which means there is always something to do. There are five bedrooms in the volunteer area and three bathrooms. I share my room with two other girls. The view is gorgeous. This is a picture I took from my bedroom window the first day here.

The orphanages are also so much fun. The one I have spent the most time in is called St Vincent de Paul. It is for babies anywhere from newborn to about two years old. There are three different rooms. One for newborn to six months, one for six months to a year, and the last one is for one year and over. They are all so much fun in their own way. My favorite thing is how loving and accepting they are of us even though they don't know us. The very first day when I walked in the gate a little boy came in and gave me the biggest hug and just snuggled up to me. I can't post pictures of the kids because of privacy policies but this is a picture of me, Melinda and Nikki after our first day of work.

The next great thing about life down here is the food. We have a cook that us authentic food for lunch every day and it is always delicious. We have also discovered a restaurant called Crepes and Waffles and it is incredible. Best icecream ever. The crepes aren't bad either. We have been twice already. This is the gang in front of the restaurant with our icecream.

So, speaking of Crepes and Waffles, here is a little embarassing moment of mine. So we have a very strict curfew at the house of 9:30 every night. When we were eating at Crepes and Waffles none of us had a watch so I looked at the wall to find a clock. I saw what I thought was a clock and started to panic when I saw what appeared to be the time at 9:25. Upon second glance though I realized that what I thought was a clock was actually a fancy no smoking sign. It was 8:00. This is what my face looked like.

So today we went on a field trip to Otovalo, the second largest open air market in South America. This was heaven. I became the bartering queen and I came away with quite a few goods including but not limited to a hammick and 18 bracelets. Here are a few pictures from the day including one of the group.

Ok so just doing that much took me like an hour so that is going to have to be all for now. Thank you, come again.

Um I guess I am officially a blogger

So I was at an extended family gathering today and we were having a casual conversation about blogging, because I guess that is what folks do these days. My relatives were appalled when they found out I didn't have a blog of my own so I caved under the pressure and here I am. I am the joke of the family so I am trying to be more normal. Here goes nothing, wish me luck.
